The future of home healthcare in Colorado has arrived! Community First Choice (CFC) officially launched and is already transforming how thousands of Coloradans access home and community-based services. At Voyager Home Healthcare, we’re excited to be providing these enhanced services to help you live independently and safely in your own home.
What is Community First Choice (CFC)?
CFC is a game-changer for home healthcare in Colorado. This new Medicaid state plan benefit works alongside existing HCBS waiver programs to provide more options and flexibility for people who need support with daily activities. The best part? It’s designed to help you stay in your home and community where you’re most comfortable.
CFC doesn’t replace your current services – it enhances them. If you’re receiving waiver services, you can have both CFC and your waiver services working together to meet all your needs.
Who Can Benefit from CFC?
You may be eligible for CFC services if you:
- Have Health First Colorado (Medicaid)
- Meet an institutional level of care (meaning you need the kind of care typically provided in a nursing facility)
- Want to receive that care in your own home instead
If you’re already receiving waiver services, you automatically qualify! And if you’re not currently on a waiver but think you could benefit from home care services, CFC has opened new doors for you.

Your Options for Receiving Care
One of the most exciting aspects of CFC is the flexibility it offers. You have two main ways to receive services:
1. Agency-Based Care (That’s Us!) Work directly with Voyager Home Healthcare, where our licensed, trained, and compassionate caregivers provide consistent, reliable service. We handle all the background checks, training, scheduling, and coordination – you just focus on living your life.
2. In-Home Support Services (IHSS) This option gives you more control over hiring and managing your caregivers while still having support from our team.
Why Choose Voyager Home Healthcare for Your CFC Services?
We’re Licensed and Experienced
Personal care services under CFC require providers to have a Class A or Class B Home Care Agency license. Voyager Home Healthcare is fully licensed and already serving CFC clients successfully, so you can feel confident in the quality and compliance of your care.
Family Caregivers Welcome
Do you have a family member who wants to be your caregiver? We support that! Family members (including parents, spouses, or guardians) can be hired through our IHSS program to provide your care. There are some hour limitations for certain family caregivers, but we’ll help you navigate all the details.
Flexible Scheduling
Need care around the clock? We can provide up to 16 hours of care per day with one caregiver, and if you need more than that, we’ll coordinate a second caregiver to ensure continuous support.
No Hidden Costs
CFC services are covered by Medicaid at no cost to you – just like current waiver services. And unlike some other programs, CFC doesn’t have the restrictive cost containment limits that might have limited your services before.
A professional aide can make sure these tasks are completed with care and respect, maintaining the dignity of your loved one. This also relieves the family of the physical and emotional toll of providing hands-on care.
How the CFC Transition Works
The transition to CFC is designed to be seamless for you:
- If you’re currently receiving waiver services: You’ll transition to CFC during your annual review with your case manager. Many of our clients have already made this smooth transition and are enjoying expanded service options.
- If you’re new to home care services: You can start CFC services right now! Contact us today to begin the process.
- Your costs don’t change: Services remain covered by Medicaid at no cost to you.
